Dec. 05, 2023

HARRISBURG — In response to the announcement of the House session schedule for the first six months of 2024, Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford/Erie), Republican chairman of the House State Government Committee, issued the following statement:

“Under a Republican majority in the months of January and February, the House had 10 voting session days in 2021 and nine voting session days in 2022.

“Under a Democrat majority, there were only two voting session days in January and February this year, and the Democratic speaker just announced that the Democrat majority House will have zero voting session days in 2024 during January and February.

“So, a total of two voting session days in the months of January and February for the Democrat majority for the session that began Dec. 1, 2022, and will conclude on Nov. 30, 2024, compared to 19 voting session days in the Republican majority during the previous session that began on Dec. 1, 2020, and ended on Nov. 30, 2022.

“We are a full-time Legislature, and we should not skip voting session every time the Democrats lose their slim majority. Word has it a Democrat will resign next week, so with a 101 to 101 tie it looks like the Democrats plan to repeat what they did this year and just not have voting session if they don’t have a majority. It takes months for legislation to go from introduction as a bill to being signed into law, and two entire months of not being in voting session only hurts Pennsylvania residents.”
