HARRISBURG – Chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) issued the following statement in response to the unanimous vote today rejecting Gov. Wolf’s tax plan:
“I am proud to say that taxpayers, small business owners, entrepreneurs and members of the hard-working, middle class were all heard and represented today as the House unanimously rejected Gov. Wolf’s tax plan to support massive increases in state government spending. As Policy Chairman, over the last several weeks, I have traveled the state talking to Pennsylvanians of all walks of life and the message back to Harrisburg has been clear: New, higher taxes will stifle economic growth in this Commonwealth. Spending restraint, not higher taxes, will help to create more jobs and provide the needed relief to our budget shortfalls.
“Now, real and meaningful debate can begin on how to best fund the core functions of government, address the crippling pension crisis and look for ways to further improve upon the efficiency of government programs. We need a budget that moves Pennsylvania forward, and I am hopeful that after today’s vote, that is exactly what we can start to work toward.”
