BLAIR COUNTY—Today, Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) and the House Republican Policy Committee, led by Chairman Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), convened the second hearing in a series to discuss ways to ensure both low-cost and reliable energy for consumers.
The hearing, “Balancing Your Budget and Thermostat: Consumer-Focused Energy Policy,” featured the following testifiers: Michael Butler, mid-Atlantic executive director, Consumer Energy Alliance; Emily Stipe, senior manager of federal and state advocacy, Vistra Corp; and Steve Kratz, president, Pennsylvania Chemical Industry Council.
Pennsylvania is a literal energy powerhouse. The state’s natural gas and oil industry supports 497,000 jobs, contributes $78.6 billion to the state economy, and provides the state $335.2 million in wildlife conservation funding, according to Energy Citizens. The state is also leading the world in emissions reductions.
However, energy policies proposed by the current administration would lead to missed investment opportunities, job losses, and less sustainability for the environment. Most importantly, these weak policies compromise Pennsylvanians budgets and energy reliability.
“Every day, my neighbors in Blair County are telling me their household budgets are getting tighter and tighter,” said Gregory. “I’ve seen my own utility bill skyrocket in recent years and know that it’s the same for so many other people. I am committed to taking steps to ease the burden on our consumers.”
“Pennsylvania is a diverse state with many different industries and cultures, but there is one issue that unifies the state and that is energy. Pennsylvania is a net-energy generator, and we need to keep it that way so we can move our Commonwealth forward, our nation forward. The world is a better place with PA energy,” said Kail.
