HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today released the following statement in response to Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato proposing the highest property tax increase in the county’s Home Rule Charter history:
“It’s not surprising that in her first year as county executive Sara Innamorato is apparently intent on bringing disastrous California politics to western Pennsylvania. The thought of increasing property taxes 46.6% on hardworking families and seniors on a fixed income, while inflation soars and costs are rising, is downright insulting.
“Washington County welcomes Allegheny County residents who have had enough. We have low taxes and high quality of life; our schools are top notch; and our municipalities offer top-level services and many community-building activities.
“Republicans are committed to finding solutions to inflation, not increasing taxes for people who can’t afford it. Earlier this year, I authored a proposal to reduce the Personal Income Tax and eliminate a tax on electricity bills. Passage of the tax cut plan would have put about $3 billion annually back into the pockets of Pennsylvania taxpayers, helping all our residents deal with the ongoing burden of inflation.
“I encourage Allegheny County Council to thoroughly examine Innamorato’s plan and cut the waste instead. If not, further exodus of residents will occur, exacerbating Allegheny County’s problems.”
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County covers the city of Washington; Amwell, part of Carroll (Districts 3, 4 and 5), East Finley, Fallowfield, Morris, North Franklin, part of North Strabane (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), Nottingham, Somerset, South Franklin, South Strabane and West Finley townships; and the boroughs of Donora, East Washington and Green Hills.
