HARRISBURG – Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) this week was appointed to serve on the Education, Insurance, Local Government, Professional Licensure, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2025-26 Legislative Session.

“I am especially pleased to be able to continue my work with the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee for another term,” said Watro, who is an Army veteran. “Helping my fellow veterans is a priority of mine, and I look forward to furthering those efforts with my colleagues on this important committee, which also develops legislation to keep all Commonwealth residents safe.”

The House Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.

The House Insurance Committee helps to oversee the Insurance Department and ensures any legislation pertaining to insurance matters is studied with extreme care, especially regarding its potential impact on consumers.

The House Local Government Committee reviews policy that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate, including purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.

The House Professional Licensure Committee considers legislation dealing with the 29 professional and occupational licensing boards administered by the Department of State, ranging from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors. The committee also reviews regulations put forward by the department.

Standing committees are a cornerstone of the legislative process. All bills are assigned to a committee to undergo review. Committees may hold hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills and report them to the full House for a vote.

Watro and other House members took the oath of office on Jan. 7 to officially begin the new session.
