HARRISBURG – Rep. Marc Anderson (R-York) issued the following statement on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address today at the Capitol:
“Today, I was very impressed with the preparedness and eloquence of Gov. Josh Shapiro as he successfully performed a well-delivered speech but, unfortunately, the delivery was not accompanied by the truth.
“The governor took credit for addressing teacher shortages, yet there are less applicants for teacher openings in 2025 than ever before. He took credit for increasing student opportunity for vocational education, yet the waiting lists for placements in vo-tech schools are increasingly denying opportunities for students to prosper and contribute. He took credit for controlling college costs, but any parent who sent a student to college when the governor took office in 2023 is paying considerably more for the same education in 2025.
“The governor also specifically stated he was dedicated to addressing infrastructure equally in both urban and rural communities, yet he recently diverted millions set aside for projects in Newberry Township, within the 92nd District I represent, to subsidize Philadelphia's mismanaged mass transit system.
“Gov. Shapiro claimed to be a champion of Pennsylvania farmers, yet continues to cripple our farm families with regulations to satisfy his supporters within the environmental and big labor communities.
“When I entered the chamber today, I expected to hear an explanation of how the governor will offset the 7.5% spending increase he is proposing for this year's budget. Today, I wanted to hear responsibility; I heard recklessness. I wanted to hear the truth; I heard insincerity. I wanted to hear a budget address; I watched a show.”
