HARRISBURG – House Education Committee Chairman Stan Saylor (R-York) today announced that Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) will serve as the secretary of the House Education Committee.
“Representative Phillips-Hill served as a legislative aide prior to be elected to the state House and she served on a local school board,” Saylor said. “She has the background and experience that will serve the committee well in her new position as committee secretary and I am very pleased to have her as a member of the committee.”
Saylor also named the Republican chairmen and Republican members of the House Education Committee’s subcommittees. The committee assignments are:
Subcommittee on Basic Education:
Rep. Mike Reese (R-Westmoreland/Somerset) – Chair
Rep. Will Tallman (R-Adams/Cumberland)
Rep. Hal English (R-Allegheny)
Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks)
Subcommittee on Higher Education:
Rep. Jim Christiana (R-Beaver) – Chair
Rep. Mark Gillen (R- Berks/Lancaster)

Subcommittee on Special Education:
Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) – Chair
Rep. Dan Truitt (R-Chester)

“Subcommittees of the House Education Committee play a very important role in formulating public policy,” Saylor said. “They are able to offer a specific focus on details of legislation and vet bills prior to them coming to the full committee for a vote. They are also empowered to hold public hearings and field hearings to gather information on education issues.”
