Verobish Votes in Favor of Pennsylvania Budget Proposal, Citing No New Taxes and a Safe Rainy Day Fund

July 12, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Andrea Verobish (R-Blair) issued the following statement after voting “yes” on the $50.8 billion state budget deal for Fiscal Year 2026-27:

“The budget proposal we were presented with today can best be described as much needed collaboration among the General Assembly. We’re investing in programs and services to support working Pennsylvanians and we are not raising taxes in the upcoming fiscal year. But I also appreciated seeing what was negotiated out of the original proposal to better the entire Commonwealth.

“I was incredibly pleased to see the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program will not be decimated in this state budget. School choice has been a priority of mine since the day I was sworn in and this program is a huge factor in supporting families and finding an education that works best for their students. The budget also allocates $10 million for career and technical centers to address waitlist issues, opening the door for more Pennsylvania students who may want to take this route into the workforce.

“Pennsylvanians will not see increased taxes this year and neither will the local businesses that add charm to our communities and, more importantly, employ our friends and neighbors. The proposal did not include the previously introduced 5% digital ad tax that would increase their spending to better reach their communities. The proposal also slashes any option for combined reporting, supporting investment and economic growth for Pennsylvania.

“The Commonwealth has never proposed a budget that was perfect and this year is no exception. However, I am impressed we were able to reach compromise in a way that did not require dipping into the state Rainy Day Fund. There is a time and place where we will need to use that money but for now I feel it’s best to keep investing in it instead of draining it.

“I strongly believe there are portions of this budget that could be improved, but this is a step in the right direction. The General Assembly has historically struggled with negotiating a responsible budget, but I’m confident we are collaborating in ways that will support Pennsylvanians in the long run.”
