State Budget Reflects Responsible Investments Today, Says Gaydos
July 12, 2026
HARRISBURG - Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the 2026-27 General Appropriations bill:
“Passing a state budget is about finding common ground and making responsible decisions for the people we represent. While not everyone will agree with every part of this budget, real leadership means working together to move Pennsylvania forward.
“This $50.8 billion budget demonstrates greater restraint while investing in the priorities that matter most today. It is balanced without raising broad based taxes or tapping the Commonwealth's Rainy Day Fund, thanks in part to stronger than expected revenues, Medicaid payment cycle adjustments and responsible management of special funds. At a time when families are facing higher costs for groceries, housing and energy, it is important that we make responsible investments while protecting taxpayers and preserving affordability.
“The budget delivers funding for our local schools, roads and bridges, career and technical education, and public safety. The additional $10 million investment in career and technical education will help prepare students for rewarding careers in high demand fields, while funding for the Rapid Bridge and Road Deployment Program will improve critical infrastructure across the Commonwealth.
As Pennsylvania prepares for the jobs and industries of the future, we must make sure economic growth is balanced with affordability. We should not have to shoulder higher energy costs because of growing demand from large scale data centers or other energy intensive projects. As we invest in workforce development and infrastructure, we must ensure families, small businesses and employers remain our top priority.
“I also supported long overdue cost of living adjustments for pre Act 9 retirees and retired municipal police officers and firefighters who have not received an increase in more than 20 years. These dedicated public servants deserve to be recognized for their years of service.
“My constituents expect us to spend their tax dollars responsibly. This budget invests in education, workforce development, infrastructure and public safety while protecting taxpayers, preserving our financial stability and supporting a stronger, more affordable Pennsylvania. It is my job to do what is best for the communities I represent, and I believe this budget accomplishes that. That is why I voted ‘yes.’”
