Delozier: Budget Compromise Invests in Students, Law Enforcement Without Draining State Savings
July 12, 2026
HARRISBURG – Citing sound investments that benefit Cumberland County residents, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) supported the 2026-27 state budget adopted by the Pennsylvania General Assembly today. Following final passage, she issued this statement:
“Today, I voted in favor of a budget proposal that is a compromise between the House and Senate that strengthens investments in education, supports first responders and increases funding for domestic violence and senior services. These are areas of importance to Cumberland County and residents of the 88th District, where our communities continue to grow and thrive.
“The agreed-to budget provides historic levels of funding for education. As a result, every school in the Commonwealth will be well-funded to teach our future leaders. There will be increases due to the adequacy gap formula changes that I advocated for last budget cycle for our local school districts, including Cumberland Valley, West Shore and Mechanicsburg Area.
“This budget funds services for our seniors to stay in their homes, funds work for victims of domestic violence, and the Victim Act provides dollars for training and solving cold cases to protect our communities.
“Perhaps most importantly, the budget compromise accomplishes these goals without raising taxes or touching the Rainy Day Fund, a state savings account designed to provide support during economic downturns. It earns money as the state invests in our future.
“As a compromise, there is spending in the budget I don't agree with. $50.8 billion is higher than I had hoped the spending would be, but this budget works to achieve important goals that do not jeopardize the long-term financial health of our Commonwealth. In last year’s budget, House Republicans championed major policy changes that will allow for more economic growth. Time will allow us to reap the benefits of those policies and lead to more flexible budgeting in future cycles.
“Looking ahead, our communities are positioned for continued growth and stability, ensuring we can meet today’s needs while preparing responsibly for tomorrow. It is incumbent on the state legislature to work for a compromise to get a budget passed to allow our state and local governments to continue the important services provided to our constituents.”
