HARRISBURG – Rep. Dave Zimmerman (R-Lancaster) has been appointed to serve on the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, as well as two other House standing committees, for the 2015-16 legislative session.
The first-term legislator also will serve on the House Local Government Committee and Human Services Committee.
“I’m extremely pleased with my committee assignments, especially my appointment to the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, which I had requested,” Zimmerman said. “Agriculture is a primary employer in the 99th District, and continues to rank as the Commonwealth’s top industry. Having worked in agri-business for many years, I know I can bring the experience needed to be a strong voice for our working farmers. I’m excited to be working on issues that will impact the economy of the state and the lives of so many Pennsylvanians.”
As for his other committee assignments, Zimmerman will draw on his experience as a former township supervisor, assistant treasurer, roadmaster and stormwater specialist in addressing issues that come before the Local Government Committee.
“I understand how local governments serve residents across the state, and so I also understand the needs of local government,” Zimmerman said. “I have served in local government coordinating with county government in the areas of municipal planning, transportation, and agriculture. I expect that experience will serve me well on this committee.”
Zimmerman said community service has been a big part of his life, and he looks forward to his work on the Human Services Committee to assist Pennsylvanians who have, for one reason or another, fallen upon difficult times.
“I understand and agree with helping those in need, and in assisting those who have drug or alcohol dependency issues,” Zimmerman said. “I have undertaken this type of work as part of my church. But, when we do these things with public money, we must also demand accountability.”
