HARRISBURG – Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) today announced that she has been named chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Welfare. She will serve on the Appropriations, Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness, Tourism and Recreational Development, and Agriculture and Rural Affairs committees in the 2015-16 legislative session.

“I have been very active on health-related issues during my time in Harrisburg, including the signing of a law last session which mandates pulse oximetry testing for newborns,” Boback said. “I will bring that experience to this new role with the House Appropriations Committee.”

In addition to her role as a subcommittee chairman, Boback’s work on the Appropriations Committee will involve participation in hearings regarding Gov. Tom Wolf’s upcoming budget plan, which are essential to the creation of a House budget proposal.

“My other committee assignments are perfect fits for my experience and the area I represent,” Boback added. “I have long been a defender of our Commonwealth’s programs for veterans, and believe it is right to give back to those who gave so much for our state and nation. In addition, agriculture and tourism are two of the biggest industries in our region. I’ll bring those perspectives to the table as a member of these committees.”
