HARRISBURG – Residents from the newly formed 5th Legislative District in Berks County will have their voices heard on a wide variety of issues as their new state representative, Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks), has been appointed to serve on the House Judiciary, Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness, Game and Fisheries, and Aging and Older Adult Services committees.
“I’m really excited to work with my colleagues on these committees to review and improve legislation that will benefit residents in Berks County,” Jozwiak said.
Jozwiak’s 25 years of service with the Pennsylvania State Police and 12 years as the sheriff of Berks County will help him as he works on the House Judiciary Committee to consider bills related to Pennsylvania’s criminal justice system.
“It’s important for our justice system to deter crime, punish criminals and protect victims,” Jozwiak said. “I’m committed to working with law enforcement officials to enact laws that protect our communities.”
Jozwiak, a U.S. Navy Veteran, also will serve on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, which will benefit from his experience in the armed forces and as a law enforcement emergency responder.
“Pennsylvania has a responsibility to care for the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces,” Jozwiak said. “It also has a responsibility to prepare for and respond to emergency situations. Our first responders are vigilant and they deserve the Commonwealth’s support.”
As a National Rifle Association membership recruiter and a member to the Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited, Leesport Gun Club, Northkill Rod and Gun Club, Strausstown Rod and Gun Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association, Jozwiak is a natural fit with the House Game and Fisheries Committee.
“I’ll bring a lifelong appreciation for outdoor recreation to my service with the Game and Fisheries Committee,” Jozwiak said. “I’ve enjoyed my experiences in Pennsylvania’s woods and streams and want to ensure we can pass these assets on to future generations.”
Jozwiak also will serve on the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, which handles legislation related to the Pennsylvania Lottery and the Commonwealth’s large and active population of older residents.
“We are blessed to have older residents who contribute to the greatness of our Commonwealth in so many ways,” Jozwiak said. “Pennsylvania must honor its responsibility to care for and provide opportunities to our older residents.”
