HARRISBURG – Rep. Mindy Fee (R-Manheim) today announced her 2015-16 session committee assignments, which will include the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Game and Fisheries, Tourism and Local Government committees.
“I’m excited to be tasked with these four committees,” Fee said. “All four have a significant impact on the lives and livelihood of Lancaster Countians, and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to have a direct influence on the policy associated with each.”
The House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee is the gateway for laws pertaining to agricultural research and funding, seed and feed quality, food safety, and domestic animal disease control. Fee noted that agriculture is the No. 1 industry in the state and Lancaster County ranks at the top for the total value of agricultural products sold.
“My district includes much of northern Lancaster County, which is home to some of the finest farmland on the planet,” Fee said. “Our farmers are directly impacted by legislation that passes through this committee. I’ve worked to develop a close relationship with local ag leaders and am eager to continue working on their behalf.”
Tourism is the only committee on Fee’s list that will be new for the second-term lawmaker. The committee focuses efforts on travel and tourism promotion for the Commonwealth, as well as sub-topics such the Historical and Museum Commission, agritourism, state and local hotel taxes, and more.
“Tourism is Lancaster County’s second most prominent industry,” Fee noted. “Our local economy is hugely affected by tourism dollars. Plus this committee has the added benefit of having Lancaster County’s own Rep. David Hickernell (R-Mount Joy Township) at its helm. I’m pleased to work with him on this important issue.”
The Game and Fisheries Committee has responsibility for legislation concerning Pennsylvania’s wild game, as well as fishing and boating matters.
As a member of the Local Government Committee, Fee will participate in deliberations about municipal authorities, municipal codes, assessment laws, municipal pensions, and planning and zoning.
