WHAT: As part of the House Republican Caucus’s Good Jobs for PA (#GoodJobs4PA) legislative package, the House Majority Policy Committee, chaired by Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest), will visit Philadelphia’s Wistar Institute to discuss its mission as well as its direct relationship with the Community College of Philadelphia to educate and train students for careers in the biomedical field.

The Wistar Institute is an international biomedical research leader in cancer, immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccine development. Encompassing 31 specialized laboratories devoted to medical research and training, Wistar’s current research on targeted therapies in melanoma, tumor immunology and translational research is leading to significant developments in cancer medicine. Since 1972, Wistar has been a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center and is one of only 69 such cancer centers from approximately 1,500 in the U.S. and the only one in Philadelphia solely dedicated to research. Wistar’s Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center is focused on immunology, virology and other research disciplines to improve public health through the creation of new and improved vaccines in the U.S. and around the globe.

WHO: Oberlander and her legislative colleagues, along with Wistar officials and representatives from the Community College of Philadelphia.
